'Mini Schengen, New Yugoslavia'

Prime Minister Edi Rama, followed by Serbian President Vucic, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and Montenegrin President, Milo Djukanovic, were greeted with the slogans and mottos of “Shame, Shame” as they approached their hotel in Tirana where the leaders' session was planned.

Activists for the initiative called: "For the Albanians the Sun Rises In The West", gathered on the boulevard of the Nation's Martyrs in front of the hotel where the meeting was to be held. Needless to say: clashes between protesters and police were not lacking.

At the beginning of the protest, activists said they fundamentally opposed the initiative set forward by the regional leaders--labeling it a "rebirth of Yugoslavia."

They point out that the Prime Minister has not consulted with anyone about the initiative and has therefore betrayed the neighboring country of Kosovo.

North Macedonia's Prime Minister, Zoran Zaev, and Serbia's President, Aleksandar Vucic, arrived in Tirana on Friday to attend a meeting of the Western Balkan leaders, in the framework of the "Mini-Schengen" initiative, to deepen regional cooperation, where activists of the “Vetëvendosje” movement protested against the arrival of the Serbian President in Tirana.

After the first two meetings, which were held in “Novi Sad, Serbia” and “Ohrid, Macedonia”, now Albania is hosting the third meeting.

The leaders of Albania, North Macedonia and Serbia held an informal meeting on Friday afternoon.

***** After the meeting, Vucic, Zaev and Rama attended the charity event called: 'You'll Never Be Alone', so as to raise funds for those who are affected by the November 26th earthquake.
