The Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime has announced that the first hearing of the trial between Yldon Media Group President, Ylli Ndroqi and Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj will take place on July 16.

The latter will have to answer for the accusation of defamation committed worldwide, provided by Article 120, second paragraph of the Criminal Code.

The lawsuit was filed by Mr. Ndroqi on June 19.

The subject of the court case are the reactions that the mayor made as he was asked by the journalists of RTV Ora and Ora News for a series of news.

Veliaj has also been sued for not reporting a crime, as he has spoken in the media about people who have tried to impose fines on the mayor.

At the hearing on June 16, the parties will be able to represent themselves or, conversely, the lawyer only through a special power of attorney.

But Mr. Ndroqi has a message for Veliaj: “I invite you to appear at the hearing without a lawyer. You have a public and moral obligation to your constituents and all the inhabitants of Tirana to be transparent and to tell the truth.

I invite you to be in the session on the 16th at 09:00 in front of the justice of the Albanian state.

The summons of the Special Court states that failure to appear at the hearing has legal consequences, with the recurrence of the summons and, in case of non-response, association with the police services. "
