The President of the country Ilir Meta expressed his satisfaction with the progress being made by the political parties for the electoral reform.
But he said that if the changes to the Electoral Code were approved unilaterally, there would be no opening of negotiations with the European Union.
President's Facebook post:
On the issue of the Electoral Code, I am pleased that, according to political and diplomatic actors, there is progress.
I look forward to hearing from the parties and on 31 May 2020 concluding by consensus the long-awaited changes required by the European Union, and other partners.
I will applaud the consensus and immediately sign these changes as soon as they come!
But if the changes in the Electoral Code are approved unilaterally, there will be ZERO opening of negotiations between Albania and the European Union, not until the next elections, but also until the next elections that will come after them.
